A week of collections - Day Four

The glass ones.

Please excuse the photos, it's deviously hard to take a photo of glass that is all rounded and such like these are.



On the left is a nice little guy that I picked up from Ikea a while ago, they have another one that's the same just bigger that's really nice too. Though I think I have enough plain glass canisters. I'm all about COLOUR! On the right is one that I got from a Vinnie's I think. $3? Sounds about right. I do remember though that the old man selling it to me was very interested it what I was going to do with it.



This is another of my favourites. I got it of eBay and it's one of the few that I've paid a not measly sum for $20 or so? Can't remember with the postage. I love the colour and texture of this, love it.



Another beauty from trash and treasure, which I've decided to start calling the happiest place on earth. I think this was actually $1 and it was my first canister I think. I mean besides just regular supermarket purchased ones that is.



My mum gave me this last Birthday. It's very pretty! You can't really see here, but it's got lots of lovely etchings on it of flowers. It currently houses latex gloves for when I have to touch raw chicken. YUK!

A week of colllections - Day Two

Ok, I'll admit. This is technically a Christmas cookie jar that I got at Target last year.



But I like to call him Mr. Rice Penguin. Because that's where we keep our rice. Nothing is funnier than the day my nephew reached in there for a cookie, pulled out a handful of rice. And STILL tried to eat it.



This one I got at the heavenly trash and treasure market that's just near my house. $5 I think? This one holds our first aid supplies. It's deceptively big and currently has a jar of cough syrup, a jumbo pack of bandaids, about 8 different kinds of panadol, prescriptions and Damien's medicine.

A week of colllections - Day One

This is my first attempt to host anything, probably no one will play. But at least I'll get to show off my favourite thing to collect, which is Canisters!

I may have mentioned this before, but I love them. There's some really awesome things out there. My collection also extends to include cookie jars, regular jars tins etc. Pretty much anything that you can put a bag of flour in, I love.



This canister is one of my favourites (I say that about all of them). Yes, that is a top hat with a bunny coming out of it. And yes, the bunny is the lid. I got this bad boy at a local Vinnie's, it was a bit pricey at $7.50. But well worth it I think for the kitsch value alone!

Hopefully someone else will join in, I will of course happily link anyone that does. If no one plays, just enjoy the canisters. I'm sure some of my other kitchen goodies will make there way in here too. Like the caraffe that I made my ginger beer plant in, vintage pyrex and gorgeous.

Anyway, enjoy them.

A week of Nanna.... Day???

This is my last "Nanna" post for the week. Memes work on business days right?

This is another one from my large collection that was gifted from Nanna. It's an old tea tin and at the moment it holds my desicated coconut. I love all of my babies equally, but this one combines my love of tea AND kitchen containers.

I've been thinking that I'm going to start a few weekly features here so that I won't ever be finding myself desperate or content.

My ideas at the moment are:
- weekly canister, which would just be a picture of the aforementioned canister and a few lines about where I got it etc.

- Weekend baking, where I would post a recipe and picture of whatever I've cooked that weekend.

- join on with "on my desk" which might be hard since the answer is usaully either amity or tea cups

- a weekly hare your stash.

Good? Bad? What does everyone think?

A week of Nanna... Day 3!

Here is a blanket that my Nanna crocheted for me. I've had it fir a long as I can remember, but I also remember picking out the colours fir it when I was younger. So I guess that that doesn't make any sense really!

After all these years, 15 at least it's still holding up awesome and I still use it ALL the time! Love it.

She also made one for my lovely sister and our cousin who Is right I'm between our ages. Not sure what colours theirs are, but they're all the same size and equally lovely!

A week of Nanna.... Day Three

Well,I'm feeling pretty yucky tonight. I've had a tummy ache all week and it's just not going away :(

Today is just a quick story about Nanna then!

Many many years ago (10? 15?) when I was younger, we went to see some of my older boy cousins playing footy up in the hills. Nanna was there, and my girl cousin who's just a few years older than me. At this particular ground there is a big lake right next to it. Impractical? I think so! Well because football is very uninteresting to a young lass like me and my cousin, Nanna took us for a walk where we encountered the most terrifying, humongous and rabid goose in the world!!!!

After about half of a lap getting chased by the goose my nanna finally turns around and says something to the effect of "That's enough" and belts it with her heavy grandma handbag!

Although now I have mixed feelings about hitting a little birdy with a bag. At the time it made her my hero!

Needless to say, I'm still have some lingering fears of geese!

Hope you'll be back tomorrow after this terrible showing, I'm going to be writing about my blanky that Nanna made me. It'll be much better, I promise!

A week of Nanna.... Day Two

These are a few books that I got from my nanna last month. They're so funny, they're technically vintage I guess. But they're not quite old enough to be cool again yet!

Some of the things are just so strange. The handicrafts book has rug making or something of that ilk? I haven't really had much chance to look through them yet, but I'm pretty sure every second quilt in the patchwork book has some creepy animal applique on it.

These aren't the first books I've got from her, I've been slowly taking more over the years, because she's always saying that one day that she's going to just throw them all out. The tragedy!

A week of Nanna.... Day One

I think it's very funny that I started "A week of nanna" a day early all by myself. An omen so I'd know to join in? Perhaps!

Below is a gorgeous early 60's (I believe) bakelite vintage canister that my lovely nanna gifted me soon after she discovered that I was starting to collect canisters. This canister pretty much sums up how I would like my whole kitchen to look. The feeling of it at least.

- General stories from childhood involving nanna
- Reasons I'm not worried about being just like her when I grow up!

I've made some nice progess on my latest quilt. About 1/3 of the way into the basting process. I'm also a little preoccupied with thoughts of giving the local incredibly tiny craft market a go next time to see if anyone would buy anything I make. Oh how I wish to break even with my material purchasing!
