Do you love Martha? Because I sure do!

I know that lots of people have some very mixed feelings about her. And that she can be pretty scary, but I just can't help it.

With the arrival of my iPad, so came the ability to get her magazines fir about a fifth of the cost it would be to get paper versions here in Australia. To say I'm in seventh heaven would not be an understatement.

All of your feelings for Martha aside, you can't argue with the beauty of these projects and photos, no can you?

These are from the ester edition of everyday living that I've been devouring.

Only one complaint. America has opposite seasons to us, so they're all bragging about spring as we head into dreary winter. Oh well. I still love it.

28. Have a real garden

These are a few photos from my yard. Top left is the passion fruit vine I got for Christmas that has quadrupled in size, top right is the nicest mint that I've ever grown (very green!). Bottom left is Damien's little turtle chilling out in the crazy strawberry plant that has a mind of its own and bottom right is a view of all.

The parsley and mint were both totally ripped out when I planted the passion fruit and have resurrected themselves. Not that I mind. The strawberry was there when we moved in, but has just gotten out of control huge. Again, not that I mind!

This is actually just a small part of the garden and I have a real veggie patch now. But to be honest it's a little ugly at the moment. Just a few snail eaten chillies and leeks... Hopefully I'll get a good winter crop in though and it'll be prettier for photos!

41. Make 5 quilts start to finish - Quilts 1 & 2

Quilt 1 of 5.

This one was made for my nephew Seth for his first Christmas. Made using this technique by Amanda Jean at Crazy Mom Quilts.

It was made with Michael Miller Robot Camp and plain red cotton. I can't remember the binding, sorry! It was very fun to make, very easy despite the complex looking end product and nice to work in colours I wouldn't usually choose.

Very good in all!

Quilt 2 of 5.

Made with two City Weekend charm packs that I got about 100 years ago from the Badskirt Shop. I actually started making this 3 houses ago. So maybe, four years??

Anyway, this is the first quilt that I've made just for me. And I use it everyday on the couch, it's very snuggly!

99. Get a lime tree.

I finally went out and got my lime tree in the hopes of maybe having at least a few baby limes for in spring this year for some tasty mojitos.

This is a Tahitian lime, which are the most delicious one for your cocktail needs and are also good for cooking with. I got a grafted plant which basically means that they have taken a shoot from a mature lime tree and glued it onto a root system of a younger plant. This just basically means that I'll be getting limes asap.

It may not be the prettiest tree, but I have high hopes!

25. Organise my sewing room properly.

Moving house has been a great help with this one. Because I got to start off fresh! This is the purple craft room, which I hated when it was all empty. Purple can be an overpowering colour. But now all of my stuff is there, I think i might like it!

My lovely craft books and magazines.

My sewing machine and my green table, one of my favorite things.

My TWO windows with lots and lots of sunlight. (My photography skills leave something to the imagination though)

More craft books and the lovely Horstense in some calico toilles. Along with some gocco prints I did at brown owls back in the day..

46. Learn how to make real coffee

Never mind the dirty window. Just admire my tasty latte in a my pretty, pretty cup.

Damien and I made the plunge and got a coffee machine in the boxing day sales that we like to affectionately call "Longhi".

If you think buying a coffee machine will help you save money on the take away coffee you get every day, then you're wrong. You just drink twice as much!

90. Meet my neighbours.

Well, after an initially terrifying meeting with my neighbors on one side I'm happy to report that this list item has gone very well!

Firstly our next door neighbor on the left was actually the agent who sold us the house, so that was easy.

The meeting that was scary was the neighbors on the other side. I was in the front yard minding my business when she comes running over to me demanding to know my dogs name.. I was thinking that she was going to yell at me for his barking or something, but just wanted to know his name so she could make friends. Apparently they had quite a nice little through the fence relationship going on....

We also kind of met the across the street neighbors when they taped a Christmas card to our rubbish bins, so I'd call that mission accomplished!

In the mean time.... I got an iPad yesterday and have been drawing lots of little cartoons with it (like the one above) Very fun!

As I've started to get more into crochet and better at it. I'm finding myself carrying around more and more balls of wool. I've been on the lookout for a knitting bag, but everthing that I've come across is just blah. Aimed at old ladies, boring or just not what I want.

So, suggestions please...! Either bags themselves or patterns whichever. The only prerequistite is that I want to be able to sling it over my arm, so no short handles!

Wow, it's been a while. But here we are. I'm working on this crochet ripple throw for the new house when we buy a nice couch (Not the hand me downs we've always had). I'm imagining the couch to be a charcoaly grey colour. So hopefully this goes well.

Also a new toy. It's a flip camera, so watch this space for some funny puppy videos once I work out how to use it!

32. Donate blood for the first time.

Look what I did on Monday!

It was much less scary than I thought it was going to be. And none of the problems I was worried about happened (my iron being too low, travel, being rejected because of my back operation).

It all went very smoothly I think. I won't lie, it did hurt but it was nothing that I couldn't handle and it's all over fairly quickly. So no big deal.

One tip, don't get cocky about how well you're doing. Then don't only sit down for a few minutes after instead of the recommended 15. You will nearly faint and then have to lie down on the couch for 30 minutes in front of everyone and look like a huge dork.... That was pretty embarrassing.

So make sure you go to www.donateblood.com and make an appointment! It's really easy and you get free chocolate milk and cookies after. There is no downside.

I found a really great tutorial here that I used that broke the steps down so they were really easy. So you should go have a look and try it out! It's very relaxing in its repetition!

I've just ordered this from the edward and lilly made it store as the prize for this giveaway. I already own a brooch of my own and it's very cute so I thought I'd share one with one of you.

And now, the challenge. I know that I am really different in real life than most people would think I am from reading this blog. For one thing, I swear like a sailor. I'm not nearly as politely spoken day to day. And I say cool a lot. But the main thing that people are amazed to learn about me is that I love music. Specifically the louder, angrier and faster the better.

I love punk and metal and hardcore and post hardcore and any other kind of core you can think of. Going to a concerts and dancing and shoving and jumping is one of my favourite things to do in the world, even more than making!

Damien got me these for my birthday. They're 3 seperate rings, but I always wear them together. Because they're so cute!

You should definately buy things from Victoria Mason. She makes lovely things, and she's super nice to boot! When Damien got me these she let him come in to her studio and sized them for him off one of my other rings. Sweet huh?

Finders Keepers - Day 9

Today Damien very kindly agreed to go to finders keepers with me, which was nice since he knew in advance it was a craft market....

He was pretty bored until he saw the shiny cuff link store. That cheered him up a bit... He couldn't buy any though since he didn't bring any cash thinking it would all be crochet blankets and crazy old ladies...

I got myself the lovely frankie calendar and some Victoria Mason earrings. They're little apples!

For the rest of our day we went to Costco which was in a word, awesome! I think I died and went to heaven a little. I didn't know washing powder came in 9kg packs?!

I haven't actually gone in for the donation yet. My booking is for the 1st of November, and I'm pretty terrified. But I know that it's an excellent thing to do. Especially us Jorna's, we're bleeders. I might be like my dad too, the very special universal donor. His blood goes in a special section. Fancy right ?

40. Clean my linen closet - Day 5

Yet another list item that works in nicely with the pre move clean out. It looks so messy because I also had clothes overflowing in there from my closet and drawers.

This makes it look like I have a sadly small amount of linen. But we do only have one bed. The new house is going to have the first spare bedroom we've ever had! Somewhere for Jess to stay while she's here.

Spring cleaning - Day 4

In preperation for the move we've started the clean out.

This is our freezer as it was yesterday morning. And yes I am ashamed. One of us had left the door ajar a little while back, and not notice for a week or so. When I went back after I was faced with something similar to this, but not as bad. We then forgot about it and I went and had a look last week and saw this....

We have the problem that the freezer is wedged in a space and the washing machine blocks it in. So we couldn't get it out without moving the washing machine too. That's a lot of effort really.

Anyway, after a big morning of moving things to the nature strip for hard rubbish, and walking around car city for about an hour I tackled this.

I have to say, it was heaps of fun! I spent about 2 hours just laying into with a bar-b-mate (big heavy spatula). It was a nice warm day, so the flying ice wasn't annoying it was amusing! I reckon I could have even gotten some small nephews to find the joy in it.

Now we have a freezer that's not going to be used till the first weekend of December, since there's no point filling it up before we move. But still a job well done.

6. Get better at crochet - Day 3

My first step in this list item is that I've enrolled in crochet class at Spotlight. I've just had my first of 4 classes, and I can already see improvement.

I'd been taught to make granny squares at Brown Owls about 2 years ago, but never progressed beyond that really. I could never make a sampler that had even sides for example. It's hard to make non wonky sides when crocheting! For me anyway....

The picture is a granny square that I made in the last 15 minutes of the class (poorly) that my teacher did a cool border on. She had a funny name for it, but I can't remember...

Anything from my 101 list is going to be put into a Mighty Life List. So even if it's not done in the 2 1/2 (ish) years. It will be done!

48. Buy a house - Day 2

One more set of papers to sign and this house will be ours. It's in Belgrave for those Victorians who know the area and we can hear the puffing billy go past from our back yard.

500m walk one way to a local pool, 500m the other to the local footy ground. In the middle of a triangle of 3 national parks.

Sounds good, huh?

Help? Or, Blogtober Fest Day One!

My first post is a call for help.

Are you doing Softies for Mirabel this year? I want to, but I really want to do something more this year too.

That's where you all come in. I'm hoping, thinking, looking into hiring or using a space this year to have a little class and show some people who are interested in it how to make softies. But I have no idea where to start. I was thinking a first step might be Spotlight? They have sewing machines there, the people know me sort of because I go to class there every Saturday and it's a well known place.

But, what do you think? Have you ever hired somewhere, or arranged a place for Brown Owls or something (free preferably)?

Suggestions would be great!

-Put chicken in the steamer for about 10 minutes. Add the Chinese broccoli (choy sum) and then cook for another 5 minutes.

-Mix some oyster sauce and garlic and then add some boiling water to heat it up, just a splash. Pour the oyster sauce over the chicken and broccoli.

-Eat.

This is my favourite dinner at the moment. If you buy chicken tenderloins you don't even have to waste any time cutting. So this literally takes 15 minutes fridge to belly. I love it!

She's very clever and gives good tips. Like when she recommended a fabric guillotine, a.k.a my new favourite tool. It actually works too, which is pretty amazing! She's also very nice (in person and online).

Not to mention her store. She sells very nice fabric! I brought this fabric from her to make my blankie. It's all wrinkly because I sleep with it every night. The back is very very soft fleece that I stole from my mum. Very warm. It's not quilted or anything, but I blanket stitched the whole outside by hand. So that's some points. I might hand tie it somewhere down the line too. It's a bit... mishapen by the morning.

So, go. See Amy!

Baby Swiper

10. Go to the Americas

LA - Vancouver - NYC - Washington DC - San Diego - San Francisco - Vegas - LA

Trip planning is well and truly underway. We're going the last three weeks of July 2011 and I'm super excited!

First things to do include getting Damien a passport, working out the itinerary (so many places!), finding out about car rentals/trains/domestic flights in America and looking at Anthropologie catalogs online to see what I can buy.

I'm also going to stop eating between now and then so I can partake in things like the double down and the footlong cheeseburger! (Ew and eww)

Have you ever been to America? Any handy hints, or must sees?

Hello, my name is....

So, I've been thinking about a name change for the blog.

Amityville was thought up in desperation when I first started and no other inspiration was coming. We'd just gotten our first ever pet, Amity, and it seemed like an easy choice.

Lately I haven't been liking it as much and I think it's kind of girly, or childish maybe.... Not to mention that I don't even live in Boronia anymore.

So, I've been thinking and thinking. But again, no inspiration... The one idea that I did have was "Failure by Design". It's a favourite song of mine and it happily reminds me of the Mythbusters motto "Failure is always an option" which I think is a good personal motto to have when you make things. Especially as an amateur. But is it maybe too.... Grim?

I'd love some suggestions! If you think of something that might be good, comment and I'll have a little giveaway too for everyone who suggests something. Just chosen at random, even if I don't go with any of the names suggested. Just a little incentive to have a think! The prize will just be a random little goody bag of some fabrics, trims and such.

After first peeling off a large chunk of the emulsion on one screen thinking it as a special protective film I needed to remove before burning the screen and then trying to burn a screen that I had put in upside down and completely smooshing it, I had success!

After my first stupid mistakes and had my eureka moment and realised how dumb I was I got it right. I mean, the screen was obviously upside down and I of course shouldn't have had to jam it in a bend it to get it right. It's all very obvious...now...

Anyway, next mission is a good even application of the paint to get a better print. Any suggestions?

P.S. Did I mention that the iPhone that I took the photo with is a brand new one I got today after dropping my other one in the toilet? It still works fine, if you don't mind the fact that the speakers and main button don't work.... Let's just write that $795 off to a harsh but valuable lesson....

I know that this has been covered before in blogland. Extensively I would imagine. Let’s call it laziness but I’m going to ask the questions anyway.

What difference, if any, is there between buying a pattern, making the garment and then selling the finished product on and having someone else buy the pattern and materials, making the garment and then charging them for your dressmaking labour and is either of these ok?

I have a feeling that the first option would be a no-no. I seem to remember reading somewhere that if you do buy a dress pattern that the copyright is that you need to buy one pattern per dress you plan to make. So if you were to onsell the completed product, I can’t see that working really.

One more question. If either of the above two scenarios are ok, what implications are there when I want to use a vintage pattern that I paid 50c for?

I’m sure your advice is going to be great!

Tonight. I am going to go see my favourite band. And I'm pretty damn excited. So, obviously they're first.

So if you hear fangirl screaming tonight in the vicinity of Melbourne. Don't worry, it's just me.

It's turned out pretty well I think. It doesn't fit great, but I didn't alter the pattern at all. I really like the fabric, but mostly because of it's pattern. It's actually really thick and it doesn't sit great and it makes the collar a bit funny. I think that I'll definitely make another one, but use plain flannel. Even though there's limited colours to choose from I might be able to get some plain black or grey. For the next one I'll also be shortening the bodice to raise the waist and maybe make the darts a bit bigger too.

To make a long story short, we decided a couple of weeks ago to move to a new house and I've taken on a lot more responsibility at work. Between the two I'm waaaay too tired to blog of a night. But now we've found a new place (that's it above) and I' settling in at work, expect a return to the usual programming!

Also, it's less than a week until I go to Sydney. I'm super pumped to be helping out at the show, and since I've spent all my money getting a new house expect lots of inspiration pictures and no pictures of things that I've bought!

One last thing. The new house has a sun room, and it's going to be all mine! So we're starting the move on the 26th, so be expecting My Creative Space to get good and interesting after that. I have been making things too. I'll try to get some photos up in between the packing this weekend.

Is a middle aged, potty mouthed, out of shape former chef. I really think that you should take the hour to watch this. I'm in love with Anthony Bourdain. And I think you should be too!

I loved how I am still able to learn things about Australia. My favourite from the episode include, seeing Anthony eating a sausage roll, Sydney Road, trams and the fact that it's all in Victoia! I hope you enjoy it.

So, it seems that everyone is is cuckoo over my new labels. I know, they're pretty good right? I got them from this etsy store. I got 300 for what worked out to be around 40AUD. A bargain I thought. The service was really good too. You tell them what you want, they'll email you a draft for you to approve and then when that's all done they'll print them. You can also use any free font, this includes open source fonts I think. So there's lots of variety! And I'm pretty sure that if you choose some of the other options they can do pictures and everything. I didn't really look at them though.

And as for the pressing ham, I was going to do a tutorial maybe? But it was so easy that I felt silly. I'll just tell you. I asked my dressmaking teacher about them, because like a lot of you I'm sure I have the "why buy when you can make" philosophy. I pretty much just cut 2 pieces of fabric into a rough ham shape (let me know if you'd like me to post the template) and sewed them right sides together. With no real strong understanding, I figured that you would need to use stronger fabrics. So one side is calico, and the other is some nice sturdy linen from Amy.

To stuff it you can pretty much use anything that won't melt. The one in my class is stuffed with sand and saw dust, so it's super sturdy. For mine I bought a cot sized piece of natural fiber quilt wadding. Bamboo or cotton should do. Then I just cut it up into little chunks and stuffed in as many as I could. And I do mean that literally. It should be a struggle to sew up the gap because it needs to be as firm as possible!

I've been working on my dress making things this week. I made a pressing ham last Saturday to iron my darts and princess seams. And I also got this new whiz bang iron on Sunday on the way home from the fair. It's great! There's not even any wadding melted on it yet. And can I say, "Quilt basting spray, where have you been all my life?!". I got some on the cheap at the fair. And it's the best! I always screw up the basting, and have puckers and things. Now, can anyone teach me how to quilt well please?

I've not been feeling too motivated this last week or so. I got my new car, so I've been spending a lot of time just driving nice places. And last week the light in my sewing room broke. And lamp light isn't really doing it for me. I haven't used the machine in a while. But I did go back to sewing class after a 3 week break last weekend. It was great! I'd missed it, and I'm pumped to get my dress done. I think that this weekend I'll finish my final calico dress and be ready to start with the good fabric. Fun!

And last weekend I had a go at making some knitting needle bracelets. They came up a treat!

Recipe Monday

It seems like Recipe Monday is a fortnightly thing. I don't mean it to be, promise! So this week is Bakewell Slice. Or coconut slice as some people call it.

Ingredients

90g butter
1/2 cup caster sugar
1 egg
1/4 cup self-raising flour
2/3 cup plain flour
1 tablespoon custard powder
2/3 cup raspberry jam (you can use whatever you want though)

Coconut Topping

2 Cups desiccated coconut
1/4 cup caster sugar
2 eggs, lightly beaten

Method

Preheat oven to 180c. Grease lamington pan and line with paper, leaving a small overhang

Beat butter, sugar and egg until light and fluffy. Then stir in sifted flours and custard powder. Spread evenly into the pan and then spread jam evenly over the top.

Combine ingredients for the coconut topping in a small bowl and sprinkle over the jam. Bake for about 40 minutes and allow to cool completely in the pan.

Cut into bars, and then eat lots of them!

I've been home sick these last 3 days. Nothing too major, just a yucky cold. But it's keeping me here at the moment! Since I'm so bad at being sick and resting, I've actually gotten a lot of sewing done. So that's good.

I've been actually looking at all of the patterns I've gotten at op shops, instead of just having them. This dress is the first thing I've made. I did it just off the pattern, no alterations and it fits great! What are the chances?! I think that I'll be making a lot more of these. Some knits maybe? And with a fuller skirt I think. I've also 90% finished a little shirt thing that kind of fits. As most other things, it's too big in the chest area. I'll have a go at altering that I think though.

This week I started working on a scarf for my brothers birthday. It's looking good so far! But it's my first attempt at stripes, so I'll probably be asking everyone how to weave in the ends pretty soon. Also in the pictures, last week I got a roll of freezer paper! They just had it at my local sewing store. I've never seen that before. So I snatched it up with no real plans whatsoever! I thought I could give some away, so I'll choose a commenter on this post at random on Sunday and send you a metre or so. Cool?

And I've been doing some little drawings, thinking of making a stamp to make letter sets or maybe address labels. Snail mail?

Recipe Monday

Yes, I do suck. But to make up for it, here's the best Sticky Date Pudding Recipe ever!

Ingredients:

2 cups dates, chopped
1 1/2 tsp bi carb soda
90g, butter
1 cup caster sugar
3 eggs
1 1/2 cup self raising flour
1 tsp each of ginger and mixed spice

Method:

Put the dates in a pan with 1 3/4 cups of water. Bring to the boil and then remove fro the heat. Stir in the bi carb and spices and then set aside for 5 minutes. Meanwhile cream the butter and sugar. Then stir in the eggs one at a time, mixing well in between each addition. Fold in the flour and the date mixture until smooth. Pour into a well greased springform tin and cook for 1 hour at 180c.

To make butterscotch sauce combine 150g butter, 1 cup of brown sugar, 1/3 cup golden syrup and 3/4 cup cream in a pan and stir over a low heat until combined and thickened slightly.

Now, don't eat too much at once! It gave me a tummy ache this Saturday!

I have some important birthdays coming up in the next few weeks. This is freestyle blanket thing that I'm making up. It a pieced top sewn onto a polar fleece back, then I'm quilting the two together. So kind of a cheater quilt? There's no binding at least! On the polar fleece back I had a go at machine applique for the first time with the blanket stitch on the new machine. Good right?

My first attempt at paper piecing. And a puzzle ball which I just thought looked like fun. (It was!) To say that the soccer ball was biting off a little more than I could chew would be an understatement. For starters, who knew that a soccer ball was hexagons AND pentagons. I didn't so I tried to make it with all hexagons first. Also, a soccer ball has a lot of seams. That need to be hand sewn. Tough! But a good result in the end I think?

In unrelated news. There was a shetland pony grazing on a nature strip down the road from my Auntie's house on Sunday. Yes, I did pull over to take a photo. Cool though, right?

Today we had a house inspection, which is always terrifying no matter if you're not doing anything wrong! But in between all of my frantic vacuuming I had a little bit of time to whip this up! It's the "Cute-as-a-button clutch" from the Mike's book. It's not just a clever name! It was super easy to make, which is nice and really like it. I think that I make some more for my friend in a few different fabrics.

Now to go and start the Obi and skirt/halter top. I think. Not sure what it is really. Maybe some googling is in order first.

Go to Dressmaking class on Saturday!

It's so much fun. I was a little bit aprehensive after that first class. Everything seemed to be a bit simple in terms of the sewing and things. I didn't really need to watch the teacher thread the sewing machine for 45 minutes. But honestly, it's getting better every week! Last Saturday I started on a new project. I've finished the skirt that we all had to make for our first thing. A simple pattern that my teacher Sue chose that wouldn't overwhelm us, and even though I think it's a bit ugly and I'll most likely never wear it. I'm still proud as punch of how it turned out, and I learnt how to take in skirts while I was making it. A skill that I used this past weekend. So there you go.

This is the dress that I'm making now. The yellow one with the pink sash. First I have to make it in calico, to make sure that the fit is perfect and then I can get started on the real thing. Any suggestions on what kind of fabric to use? I'm thinking a light weight tweed kind of thing. To make it very Jackie O. But I really have no idea, and fabric names mean absolutely nothing to me. What the heck is damask?! Hopefully I'll learn that one soon too!

Recipe Monday

So, sorry for the continual suckage of Recipe Monday. I had a good excuse last week, it was my Birthday so I gave myself the day off. And then today. I made the awful discovery that my work has blocked blogger.com. So now I can't post, but I can't leave you guys comments either! Boo.

But anyway. I make my triumphant return with a very nice recipe. This one makes 16 cookies.

175 g self-raising white flour
1/2 tsp baking powder
75 g brown sugar
50 g butter
3 tbs golden syrup
1 whole whole egg, lightly beaten
100 g Toblerone Original Toblerone, roughly chopped

Method:
Preheat oven to 180C. Line 2 baking trays with baking paper.

Sift flour and baking powder together into a large bowl and stir in sugar.

Melt butter and golden syrup in a small saucepan over medium heat. Allow to cool for 5 minutes, then add to flour and egg. Beat to a stiff dough, then add Toblerone pieces and mix well to combine.

Place 16 well-spaced tablespoons of mixture on trays and bake for approximately 15 minutes, or until golden. Allow to cool on trays for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack once cool.

Yummy! So, I'm putting in a Mr.Linky. Even if no one has remembered this shambolic mess. But, I promise that I'll post this on SUNDAY next week. Promise!

I finished this quilt!

Woohoo! I got the fabrics on the front ages ago. They were the first jelly roll type thing that I ever bought, so fun. I'm not really in love with the quilt itself, for in my house. But I really like it, and I decided that it'll make a great 30th Birthday present for my sister in law. It'll look great on their grey suede couch!

I also used my new sewing machine to take in a skit this morning. It went really well, and it fits good now. And I got the chance to use the "overcasting" foot on my sewing machine. Which does the same as an overlocker, but without the cutty bit.

Because you haven't seen Amity in a while!

Aaand. Today I went to Harris Scarfe and they had a Singer overlocker for $300, save $299. I was sorely tempted to at least layby it. But I decided to wait till they open their store at Knox City, just incase they have an even crazier sale! Fingers crossed!

This is a stamp that someone actually ordered from me! Exciting right! I've also sold another one, but it hasn't arrived at it's new home. So I won't do the big reveal yet. But I'm super proud of it!

I also got a new camera today. An Olympus digital SLR. I'm planning on doing a little photo shoot tomorrow night to show off some of my presents and things that I've done with the new machine. And several other things!

So, it's been a week since I posted last. It was nice to have a little break after the "every day in May" madness. But to be honest I was starting to have some withdrawal symptoms this last day or 2!

Just a quick post tonight. Then I'll be back tomorrow to post My Creative Space, and then I'll be sure to have Recipe Monday back again next week! Just thought I'd share some pictures from my Birthday Party.

8 things I am looking forward to:

- My birthday! And associated partying
- Getting my new sewing machine. Soon, soon!
- Is it too early to say Summer? I'm sick of cold hands
- The cruise I'm going on at the end of this year !
- The Stitches and Craft Show, take 2.
- Meeting Amy, maybe. (As in I might be meeting her, not that I am maybe excited.)
- Long weekend, made double good because of my Birthday.
- Starting my new project at my dress making class. Cute dress, here I come!

8 Things I did yesterday:

- Brown Owls! Hoot!
- Had dinner at a restaurant by myself. Love it.
- Did a lot of things at work. Busy!
- Made some nice progress on the jumper that never ends.
- Emailed Fii about the Stitches and Craft Show in August.
- Tried to draw some new things for some stamps. Did not go too well.
- Met some nice Owl girls, and re met some and then actually learnt their names!
- Bought a cute hanky off Pip to embroider with some Sublime Stitching

8 Things I wish I could do:

- Crochet well. This means Amigumuri!
- Paint/draw.
- Pattern drafting and clothing design.
- Better cutting when I'm doing stuff for quilt tops. More symmetry!
- Keep my house clean.
- Hang things on the walls of my house, damn renting.
- Write, as in well. Like journalist style. Just for leisure. But I'd still like to be better.
- Get a good nights sleep!

8 Shows I watch:

- Fringe, my new favourite. In no small part because it has Pacey from Dawson's Creek in it. He's so dreamy!
- Reaper. As mentioned previously.
- 30 Rock. So hilarious!
- Gossip Girl
- Dawson's Creek (ashamed of these last 2, but not really)
- Supernatural, just the right amount of scary and fun.
- American Dad/Family Guy/South Park, I'm juvenile
- It's always sunny in Philadelphia. This is a new one to me. It's so, so, so funny. I highly recommend it!

So, has everyone learnt something about me? Maily that I love watching T.V.

Recipe Monday

I actually already posted this recipe before. But since that was when no one read Amityville, and the recipe is so delicious. It's ok to do it again !

Old Fashioned Raisin Square

Preheat your oven to 190 Celsius and grease and line your favourite slice pan, square or rectangle. It doesn't matter!

Ingredients:

1 cup of Raisins, Chopped
1 cup of water
125 grams of butter
3/4 cup of caster sugar
1 egg, beaten
1 teaspoon of bi carb
1 teaspoon of all spice (or nutmeg or cinnamon or something similar)
1 3/4 cups of plain flour

Method:

Put the water and raisins into a large saucepan and bring to the boil. Stir in the butter and allow to cool slightly. When it is cooled, beat in the egg. Make sure to do it quickly or your egg will cook a little.

Sift in all of your dry ingredients and mix thoroughly until it is nice and smooth. Pour evenly into a greased pan and cook for 40 minutes.

Take out of the oven and allow it to cool completely, if you take it out of the pan too soon it will fall apart. I like to dust it with icing sugar too.

My suggestions for serving is with an afternoon tea, it goes perfectly with a cuppa! Or for something slightly more decadent, put one of the bars in the microwave for about 30 seconds and then put a big scoop of vanilla ice cream over the top! Yummy!

I really hope that someone in blogland will give this a try and see how delicious it is!

Making...

Stamps! As you've probably seen. And I finished my first piece of clothing in my dressmaking class. I'll put up some photos tomorrow when my internet is regular speed.

Watching...

Lots of T.V. shows, while knitting in bed. It's been good knitting in bed weather. My current favourites are Dawson's Creek (I'm up to the last season on DVD. Sad!) and Fringe, which I only started watching today. It's really good!

Buying...

Plane tickets. Maybe I'll see you in August?

Sending...

Lots and lots and lots of packages. I finally sent out my pay it forwards, some stamps and as always lots of swaps.

Writing..

Every day in May. I did it! WOOOOO!

Hope you all had a good May, I sure did. Very productive, eye opening, lots of hard work. And fun too!

Jess sent me an email this morning and told me that she was going to be helping out Fii on the weekend of the Sydney Stitches and Craft show. My immediate response to that was to call my boss, get the Friday off, go online and book plane tickets to go too. I get jealous ok? And, do you believe that I got my return trip for $88, for everything. Thankyou Tiger Airwys!

So, I am putting out an open call now. If you need help at your stall on the Friday, Saturday or Sunday let me know. I'd love to volunteer to be your helper! You can have just one day or all 3. Whatever. Or, if you know someone that doesn't read this blog, but is needing a helper just direct them here or give them my email or something. I'm eager!

Does anyone who lives in Sydney want to meet up on Friday or Saturday night too? For coffee or dinner or something? Let me know, I'm very excited!!

My Creative Space.

Using my work room still. I haven't had much need for other creative spaces since I set that up. Other than the train obviously.

In this picture is some paper that I've been stamping to send out with my various parcels in the coming week. I think I have about 10? I like how the Amityville stamp looks. So everyone can expect a little note! Also pictured is some decorations for my birthday party which is not this Saturday, but the next. If you can't tell it's bunting! I'm very excited to hang it up. There's almost 9 metres. So it should look really good. And you'll be happy to know I'll be posting lots of pictures from my party. I have some good decorating ideas I think!

For more spaces head over to Kirst. She's getting around 50 every week now I think. Isn't she clever? For everyone that's come here today from over at Kootoyoo, make sure you come back over and play Recipe Monday okay? My Mr.Linky is so embarassed with himself next to Kirsty's.

One more thing. Do you know what's really annoying? Having to undo 150+ rows of knitting when you realise that you've been increasing on every 8th row, not every 6th and that's made one sleeve about 15cm longer than the other. D'oh!

Fat Quarters

There's not much I hate more than cutting fat quarters. My cutting mat is just a little too small, so it's a whole show of folding an working out quarters. Not the simple 20" by 18" cut it should be.
But on the plus side, if you're expecting mail from me. It should be coming soon!
